June is Pride month, so we thought we’d discuss the origins of Pride, why it’s still so important ,what’s happening this year and share some ways to celebrate.

Straight Ally Flag

Pride is celebrated annually in June to honor the 1969 Stonewall riots, and works to achieve equal justice and equal opportunity for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) Americans.

“I celebrate Pride because so many people before me couldn’t. I celebrate Pride because it means being able to live authentically. I celebrate Pride because I freaking love all the rainbow apparel that I get to throw on.”

— Brian Matthews, 32, Leesburg, Va.

We celebrate Pride because it is very important to keep the LGBTQ+ issues alive. Pride is an outlet that allows the community to express themselves, but also showcase threats to their basic human rights and dignities.

There are several ways you can celebrate Pride month.

  1. Attend a Pride parade or event

  2. Be an Ally

  3. Volunteer or donate

  4. Become an advocate

  5. Support LGBT and culture

  6. Consider Your Company's LGBT+ inclusivity {we are getting assistance this month to update our website and make sure we use inclusive vocabulary}

  7. Educate yourself

  8. Discover LGBTQ+ Films, TV Shows, and Literature

  9. Wear Pride on your sleeve

  10. Throw a Pride party of your own
